Propaganda & Public Deception

Propaganda loosely defined here as using various communication techniques to influence public opinion and perspection is at its best form in Ghana at the moment. The government and its party machinery is currently and vigourously overusing its mandate and state funds to publicise the achievements of the NPP ruling party. The Ministry of Information and National Orientation believes it is breaking no rules and laws by using the country's scarce financial resources to propagate the NPP gov't's achievements over the past 8 years. Evidence- see STC buses and huge billboards in the city under the slogan 'Then and Now'. On TV this propaganda and misuse of state funds is brazen. Unfortunately, and surprisingly, the opposition, media experts, Media Commission and other civil societies are either blind to this or boldly silent on this.
Is propaganda more effective if the learned and responsible society fail to counter the messages?

I think this report is good but it leaves me thirsty for more information about the use of propaganda in Ghana among politicians and governments. I look forward to reading more on the use of propaganda by the NDC to promote their 'blackmailing' agenda. Has it worked for them or not?

i think that Ghanaians have had enough of political deception through 'propaganda' and therefore pay no heed to these things, however this must not be looked upon.

i become very sad wheneva i see those buses and billboards.instead of our leaders 2 go back 2 the c'room 2 learn about how 2 use this propaganda machinery 2 effect achange, say in the field of sanitation they are rather wasting the nation's scarce resoures 2 display to the world how ignorant they are.unfortunatly the media is doing nothing about it.i wonder what happened 2 our "EDUCATION" function.it really is a case of the blind leading not the blind but people who refuse to see and read.

Wow! Indeed the only lesson that history teaches us is that we learn nothing from history. Was it bad then ? Yes. And it is worst now, considering the context of our fragile economic situation we are in. For me, every bad thing yesterday seems to have reached its crescendo today under this government. Thank you for this great and succinct post. Truth has no time bar on it.
